James R. Covey

September 17, 1943 - February 6, 2010

James Robert Covey, 66, formerly of Jacksonville and Lombard, died at his home in Las Vegas, on Feb. 6, 2010.

He was the son of Robert L. (deceased) and Dorothy M. Covey.

He was married twice and leaves behind a daughter, Heather (Darryl) Cooper-Krossman; two grandchildren, Briar and Chase; and one sister, Mary Pat Covey.

He was a long-standing member of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 501 and a member of the Masonic Temple.

Raymond J. Wogulis

January 10, 1915 - January 24, 2010

Raymond Joseph Wogulis, age 95 of Norwalk, CT died on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Norwalk Hospital. Born in St. Charles, ILL, he was the son of the late Stanley and Marian (Bergelis) Wogulis, and beloved husband of the late Margaret Wogulis. Living in Wayne, PA until moving to CT in 2000, he had retired as a pipefitter and welder. A wonderful father who was as determined and hardworking as he was loving and dependable, Raymond also found time to enjoy the simple things like fishing.

He is survived by his son Edward Wogulis and his wife Marty of CA, and a daughter Marian Marcheschi and her husband John of Norwalk, 4 loving grandchildren; Edward Wogulis Jr and his wife Jana of Madera, CA, Diana Keys and her husband Terry, of WA, Gina Marcheschi Leggett and her husband Sephton of West Hollywood, CA, and Matt Marcheschi and his fiancée Rebecca Schramm of San Francisco, CA, as well as 3 cherished Great-grandchildren.

Carl E. Ray Sr.

January 13, 1950 - February 7, 2010

Carl E. Ray Sr. of Woodstock Visitation for Carl E. Ray Sr., 60, will be from 5 p.m. until the funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. Burial will be private. Born Jan. 13, 1950, in Franklin , Md. , to James William and Evelyn Wilson (nee Cook) Ray, he died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home with his family by his side, after a three-year battle with lung cancer. He married Nancy Schey on July 10, 1968, in Chicago . He worked as a plumber for more than 30 years. He had many talents in creating and fixing lots of things. The time he spend tinkering with these items was very enjoyable. He enjoyed keeping his lawn perfectly manicured. He loved taking his antique car out for rides. He enjoyed being with his dogs. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ray; three sons, Carl (fiancee, Lori) Ray of Harvard, David (Vickie) Ray of Harvard and Steven (Annie) Ray of Ringwood; seven grandchildren, Jeremy and Adam Ray of Florida, Shelby and Larkyn Ray of Harvard, and Carissa, Henry and Natalie Ray of Ringwood; two brothers, James (Bonnie) Ray of Alabama and William (Tina) Ray of Texas; four sisters, June (Carl) Jones of Maryland, VIrginia (Billy) Long of Alabama, Marian (Delmar) Hood of Alabama and Willa (Ralph) Reillo of Puerto Rico; his father- and mother-in-law, William and June Schey; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Leonberger of Louisiana and Phillip Hellyer of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Carol Leonberger and Mary Evelyn Hellyer. Robert P. Batten Sr.

April 27, 1925 - February 5, 2010

Robert P. Batten Sr. went home to the Lord on Friday, February 5th, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 plus years, Dorothy Lindquist Batten; his parents, John W. and Anna C. Batten; a grandchild Kristie Van Keulen; a great-grandchild, Alissa Harasti. He is survived by his children, Nancy Batten Jaszkowski (Roger), Sue Batten McMillan, Patti Batten Van Keueln (Mark), Bob Batten Jr. (Laura); grandchildren Carrie Dickson Hoppe, Jeffrey Dickson, Beau Harasti (Robyn), Lyndsay Batten, Rob Batten the III; great-grandchildren Regan Hoppe, Kassidy Hoppe, Natalee Hoppe; sisters, Sister Thomas Batten O.S.U., Rosemary Wilkin, Barbara Ensalaco and brother Ray Batten as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob Batten was born and raised in Downers Grove, graduated from St. Joseph and Downers Grove North High School . After returning as a decorated World War II veteran, Bob met and married Dorothy Lindquist. They built their home and raised their family here. In 1987 Bob and Dorothy retired and moved to New Port Richey, FL. He returned to the Downers Grove area after the death of his wife, four years ago. Bob was passionate about many things, in his life, his love of his family, his Catholic faith, being a founding member and Fire Chief of what was then, Downers Grove Estates Fire Dept. for 17 years, being a well respected plumber for over 40 years in DuPage County . He also had a great love of horses. His gentle spirit and loving heart will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation was held Monday, February 8, 2010 at Adams Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home. Robert O. Link, lifelong resident of Winfield. The Memorial visitation for Robert O. Michael P. Was, 88, of Downers Grove passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2009.  Michael was a 56-year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 501.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 at Adams-Winterfield Funeral Home in Downers Grove.  Our condolences to his family and friends.  

 

Steve J. Stanoy

September 1, 1930 - November 15, 2009

Steve J. Stanoy 1930 2009 Steve J. Stanoy, 79, of North Aurora, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 at his home. He was born September 1, 1930 in Mishawaka, IN, under the Golden Dome. Steve was a 1947 graduate of Marmion Academy. He was employed by Johnson Controls for 31 years, and belonged to the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #501. Steve was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He played and managed Tiger Club Baseball, coached for Richard Wilcox Little League and coached CYO Basketball for Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. An avid sports fan, Steve's loves included the Cubs, Notre Dame, the Bears, garage sales and emailing his many friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Helen (Maier) Stanoy of North Aurora; his daughter, Linda (Gary) McClure of Westchester; his son, Steve Stanoy III of Aurora; three grandchildren, Matthew McClure and Alyse and Lindsay Stanoy; two sisters, Margaret (Ray) Feltes of North Aurora and Betty Hegland of Sandwich; three nieces; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Margaret (David) Stanoy; his sister, Irene Johnson; and by two brothers-in-law, Emerson Johnson and Ellewyn Hegland. Steve's family wishes to extend special thank you's to ICU and the nurses and technicians on the 3rd floor at Provena Mercy Center, Dr. Andrea Silver, and to Vitas Hospice Health Care for all the loving care they provided. Thomas W. Luther

Thomas W. Luther of St. Charles A funeral service for Thomas W. Luther, 96, a former longtime resident of Wheaton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 101 S. 6th Ave., St. Charles. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in St. Charles. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Born Aug. 6, 1913, in Cicero, he died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. Tom worked for many years as a plumber in the area. He was recognized as the oldest and also the longest member of Local #501. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. William David Watson

April 4, 1921 - October 4, 2009

BATAVIA - William David Watson, 88, of Batavia and formerly of St. Charles , passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva . He was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Chicago, the son of William and Winifred (Joyce) Watson.

William was raised in Batavia , where he graduated from high school. Following high school, he attended DePaul University in Chicago until he was about to be drafted during World War II. Instead of being drafted, William enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served from August 1942 to February 1946. William was united in marriage while serving in the Marines to Gertrude Johnson on March 14, 1943, in Jacksonville , Fla. William was a 62 year member of Plumber and Pipefitters Union No. 501. He was a member of the American Legion Post 342. He served as Boy Scout leader, a member of the Silver Fox Group at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in St. Charles and was one of the founding members of St. Charles Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; two sons, William (Shirley) Watson of Palm Springs, Calif., and Richard "Dick" Watson of Hanna , Ind. ; two grandchildren Jason (Michelle) Schmit of Courtland and Christie Libby of Palm Springs ; a great-granddaughter, Courtney Schmit; three nieces and one nephew; and many extended relatives in Scotland .

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce McElhoes.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. , Batavia . Funeral services will begin with prayers from Moss Family Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, before proceeding to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 W. Main St. , Batavia , to celebrate Mass at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Charles .

Gerald E. Petersen "Jerry"

April 1, 1938 - July 12, 2009

Gerald E. Petersen "Jerry" 1938 - 2009 Gerald E. "Jerry" Petersen, 71, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his home. He was born April 1, 1938 in Chicago, IL. To Edwin and Isabella Petersen. Jerry was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1964 and was stationed in Korea for 13 months. He was a member of the American Legion and the Navy League. Jerry graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1956 and Washburne Trade School. He was a journeyman electrician for IBEW Local 134 out of Chicago for many years. Jerry retired from the City of Aurora after 16 years as an Electrical Inspector and Code Compliance Officer. He took up sailing in 1998 and spent many peaceful weekends on his sailboat "Second Wind" on Lake Michigan. Jerry's family was the joy of his life, he was a loving husband, a proud father and a devoted grandfather, and he will be missed by all who loved him. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou Schnur); three children, Michael (Antonette) Petersen, Christine Petersen, Debra Conley; 11 grandchildren, Timothy, Breanna, Ryan, Victoria, Allison, Lauren, Madison, Rebecca, Jesse, Alyssa and Luke; a great-grandson, Timothy; a brother, Edwin "Mickey" (Jewel) Petersen; a sister, Karen (Terry) Owens; two aunts and an uncle; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Petersen. G. Lee Stanclift, age 88, of St. Charles died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Tower Hill Nursing Home in South Elgin , Illinois . He was born September 22, 1920 in Cadillac , Michigan to Edgar and Jennie (Mack) Stanclift. Lee served in the US Air Force during WWII, most of his time serving in England as an airplane mechanic. Since 1961, he was a member of the Plumbers and Pipeftters Union, Local #501. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #342, where he was a past Commander and Junior and Senior Vice. He served as Commander of the 11th District in Illinois and Commander of the 2nd Division in Illinois . He was also a member of the Forty et Eight and past member of the VFW Post #5036. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Monte) Cook of Wisconsin, Edgar J (Sharla) of Wisconsin, Jennifer (Brian) Larson of South Elgin and Roger Lee Stanclift of Tennessee; stepchildren, Sharon Henkelman of Georgia, Robert Henkelman of Wisconsin, Andrew (Margaret) Henkelman of Wisconsin and Richard Henkelman of Wisconsin; a sister, Dara (Jerome) Schneider of Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Mary Leone Ferguson Stanclift Rapp and Lois Sorensen Stanclift; three sisters, Ruth Treankler, Leora Lehman; and an infant sister; and his niece, Carol Treankler Fezatt. Kenneth B. Brogie

(June 19, 1930 - May 20, 2009)

Kenneth B. Brogie, 78, of Shabbona , IL and a longtime resident of Warrenville , IL . He was born on June 19, 1930 in Lincoln , NE and passed away suddenly on May 20, 2009. Ken is survived by his children, Cindy Reuter of Aurora, Kenneth "Kabby" (Jean) Brogie of Aurora, Candy (Dan) Reuter of Warrenville, Wendy Bozarth of Lee, Bobbie (Mark) Coleman of Shabbona, and Penny Brogie of Aurora; his 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Warren Brogie of Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Kaye, nee Reinink in March of 2007; his grandsons, Hunter and Kenneth Brogie. Ken was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #501 for over 40 years. He retired in 1993 and greatly enjoyed his travels across the U.S. in his mobile home. Ken had a great sense of humor and loved people. His family would like to extend their deep appreciation to all of the nurses and staff at all of the offices who cared for him. William Brotcke

(August 12, 1926 - April 6, 2009)

William "Red" Brotcke, 82, of Sycamore, Ill., died Monday, April 6, 2009, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Kenosha, Wis., the son of Edward and Katherine (Minsky) Brotcke. The family moved to Sycamore in 1933 after Anaconda of Wisconsin purchased the wire factory. He attended Sycamore schools, graduating from Sycamore High School. Just before graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps; his father accepted his diploma. During his World War II enlistment, he spent 14 months in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he married Rose Thompson, a marriage of 62 years to which three sons were born. 
Bill joined Local 612, Plumbers Union in 1950, after which time he held various offices and chairs. He continued his trade until 1988, when he retired. During his life, he was active with the Church of St. Mary's various functions. He was involved with the Boy Scouts, Little Leagues, and the Sycamore Veterans of Foreign Wars activities and Honor Guard. He, along with the help of Ray Byro, established the "Avenue of Flags" at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Bill and his sons displayed the flags on holidays for 20 years, before passing the job on.
Bill enjoyed to hunt, fish, golf, travel and spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; son, Michael (Sally) Brotcke, their children, Katherine (Todd) Nelson and Benjamin Brotcke, son, James (Deborah) Brotcke, their daughters, Sarah (David) McCann and Amanda (Julian) Sebek, and son, Lee (Cindy) Brotcke, their children, Paul (Leming) Brotcke and Anna (Craig) Zumsteg; five great-grandchildren, Mason, William, Emily, Gabriel and Cole; one brother, Thomas (Sandra) Brotcke; and one sister, Donna Wiese.
His funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, at the Church of St. Mary in Sycamore, with Fr. Frank J. Timar, MSC, officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore, with a wake service being recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the church.

VERNON D. KRAUSE

(December 23, 1944 - February 13, 2009)

Vernon D. Krause A celebration of life service for Vernon D. Krause, 64, of Danville, Ill., will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Earl Eells officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at Danville National Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home. Born Dec. 23, 1944, in Elmhurst, the son of Michael and Lorene (nee Meyer) Krause, he passed away at 2:14 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill., He married Theresa Comrie on Sept. 27, 1980, in Huntley. She survives. Vernon is also survived by three sons, Eric S. Krause of Woodstock, Brandon J. (Leslie) Krause of Danville and Brodie W. (Carrie) Krause of Rossville, Ill.; two daughters, Mary Beth Krause of Cape Coral, Fla. and Rebekah N. York of Danville; one brother, William (Karen) Krause of Glendale Heights; four sisters, Marilyn Hayward of Keeneyville, Ill., Barbara (Jack) Poss of Montgomery, Judith Jorden of Oakman, Ala. and Karla (Harry) Van Cott of Streamwood; eight grandchildren, Bailey and Austin York, Taylor, Karli and Kyle Krause, and Hayden, Lexie and Lilly Krause; a mother-in-law, Betty Comrie; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; two sisters; and his father-in-law, Peter Comrie Sr. Vernon served in the Army from 1966 to 1969. After serving his country, he worked as a plumber with Union Local #501 until his retirement. Vernon was a member of the American Legion Post #210 in Danville. He loved to cook and watch drag racing. He was a diehard Bears fan! What Vernon loved most of all was spending time with his family and friends. STANLEY M. MAEZES

(March 1, 1958 - February 6, 2009)

Stanley Michael Maezes, age 50, of Plainfield, at peace February 6, 2009. Born March 1, 1958 in Chicago to Alex and Stella Maezes. Stanley is survived by his daughters, Katie Maezes and Sandra (Christopher) Powell, and their mother, Patricia; his cherished granddaughter, Lilliana Nicole Powell; his siblings, Stephen Maezes, Michael Maezes, Debrah Dybla, Roseanne French, Gloria Raschka, Alex Maezes and Linda Gajeski; his fiance, Barbara and many nieces and nephews. He was a Fourth Degree Member of Knights of Columbus, Good Shepherd Council #5573 and loved riding his Harley Davidson. Stan was everyone's best friend, an obsessive grandpa "Papa" and a great father who will be deeply missed. WALTER ALEXANDER FULTON
(June 2, 1959 - January 26, 2009)

 

Walter A. Fulton, 49 years old of Bartlett, IL passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 26, 2009 at Edwards Hospital, Naperville, IL. He was born June 2, 1959 in Kennewick, WA the son of the late Homer and Lois (Danner) Fulton. He lived in Streamwood before moving to Bartlett in 1988. He worked as a HVAC service technician for KCW in Glen Ellyn for the past 15 years and was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local 501 of Aurora. He enjoyed boating, riding his Harley motorcycle, and was a hard worker. Survivors include his daughter, Hope Fulton of Bartlett, his brother, Bobby (Nancy) Stockham of Antioch; his sister, Faith Schroeder of DeForest, WI; his step-father, Herbert Nelson of DeForest, WI ; his faithful dog, Mate and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Sue Gorsuch.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, January 30, 2009 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte 83). Interment will be private.
